September Character Kids

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.  find out what it means to..............Winston Elementary.

Congrats to these RESPECTFUL students (Septembers Character Kids):  Gabrielle Taul - 1st , Kyle Christensen - 3rd, Noah Riddle - 5th, Lalia Cruson - 6th, Katie Green - 4th, Taiton Caldwell - 2nd, and Bailey O'Dell - Kindergarten, Jentry Lee - Pre school (not pictured)

The month of September was a busy month for students as they learned about treating others with courtesy and honor.  Students pictured above received a "doughnut celebration" for being named Character Kids for the month of September.    The elementary incorporates character traits and what it means to be a good citizen in every aspect of our day.  Guidance lessons during this month focused on showing "Respect" which also happens to be one of our school wide expectations.  There was an additional emphasis but on Bullying Prevention during this time and you may have heard we implemented "Lunchroom Learning"  every Friday this year.  The students watch short videos focused on reinforcing our Character Trait for the month.  This has been a big hit with Grades K-4!

Second Grade Improves Spelling Scores

Second grade improves Spelling scores two weeks in a row, earning a Chocolate Chip Cookie Party!

As many of you are aware, we utilize the Pathways to Reading Program as part of our Elementary English Language Arts Curriculum.  This research based program focuses on 5 major components of reading.  Students start working more intensely on Spelling at the end of their first grade year and continue that focus adding multisyllable words as a second grader.  This group of students continues to work hard and make improvements each week.  After two weeks in a row of improved scores, they scored with a classroom celebration from Ms. Pope.   Congrats second grade!
